Conductive Education for children aged three to seven years

The Early Intervention service is designed to meet the needs of children aged three to seven years and their families by delivering a conductive service with the flexibility to suit a variety of families’ needs. These services can link in with mainstream or other specialist provision or can be a dedicated, specialist conductive service for a child.

By the age of three it is advantageous for most children to move away from dependence on parents and start to learn independently with other children. At this stage too, there should be opportunities for daily, more extended, learning activity. For some children this is preparation for National Curriculum work, which will be part of school education later on.

Opportunities

The National Institute offers full-time and part-time places for early years education through Conductive Education. The Early Intervention curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage and acts as preparation for the Key Stage 1 programme of study.

Applications for consideration are welcome on behalf of children who:

  • Have a form of cerebral palsy or other eligible condition;
  • Are 3-7 years of age;
  • Are able to attend the National Institute regularly

Services

The Children can attend Early Intervention Services on a range of bases, including:

  • As a full-time nursery school (3-4 years)
  • As a full-time reception class (4-5 years)
  • As a specialist part-time provision in conjunction with another provision (aged 3-7 years) attending on a flexible basis from one to five sessions a week;
  • Children can also attend on a fixed-term block basis, attending five days each week.

Along with their gross and fine motor development the children are developing their ability to co-operate, listening skills, attention and concentration, receptive and expressive language skills, problem solving, reasoning and numeracy and their knowledge and understanding of the world, their perception skills, hand-eye co-ordination and creative understanding.
