Holly’s Story

“Coming to NICE was one of the best decisions we have ever made as it has changed ours and Holly’s life for the better.” - Holly’s Mum and Dad

Holly began attending the National institute of Conductive Education (NICE) when she was just over one year old and has continued for over 6 years. We found out about NICE when Holly’s physiotherapist was on sick leave and we felt we had no support and no one to turn to. Holly’s daddy went on the internet and found out about NICE and when we spoke to our physiotherapist she recommended it for Holly. We started off by going to the Parent and Child group which opened us up to a new world! They taught us how to handle Holly, feed and dress her, and above all enabled and encouraged us to make Holly as independent as possible. They were so positive about Holly and had a can do attitude which we had rarely come across.

Today Holly attends NICE full time. Gaining a place did not happen easily as we had to struggle with Worcestershire Local Education Authority to provide the funding. We felt we needed to keep Holly at NICE as we knew this was the right type of education for her as she loved going to school and she was learning so much! The staff are so supportive, hard working and dedicated to helping Holly achieve the best possible that she can and we knew that she would be in a safe and happy environment which means more than anything, when you have a child like Holly.

Holly has blossomed from a quiet inward-looking child in her own world who struggled to feed and take her part in the world, to a bright, bubbly confident little girl who loves to try to communicate, sing songs and eat lots! Physically, her sitting and standing and general movement has improved and she wants to try and feed herself, interacts and plays and is definitely making her mark in the world. We feel this is down to the hard work of Holly and the staff at NICE which we will be eternally grateful for.
